he beginning of the post-Classic period is marked by the abandonment of Teotihuacan, and its ending by the arrival of the Spanish eight centuries later. For two centuries after the fall of the great urban center Teotihuacan, warfare reigned between rival city-states. Finally, the Toltecs emerged as the principal power in Central Mexico, to be followed by the Aztecs.
